What Division 7 covers

CSI Division 7 covers the systems that separate conditioned space from the weather: air barriers, waterproofing, sealants, and the traffic coatings that protect exposed decks. It is the division where a specification decision is least visible on day one and most expensive to get wrong in year ten.

Almost every building-envelope failure is a water failure, and most water failures happen at a joint — a transition between two materials, a penetration, a control joint that moved further than the sealant could follow. Division 7 products exist to make those joints durable.
